Download woes

I wonder if anyone can help me.  I use Firefox web browser and Fresh Download as my download manager.  When I try to use FD to download a portfolio, it tells me that the link is an HTML page, not a ZIP file.  Firefox handles the ZIP links happily, but I want to be able to schedule overnight downloads via Fresh Download as I'm on a dialup line which is free gratis from 1am to 7am.

The problem is probably due to ISM's use of a PHP script which links to the ZIP file.  While FD can handle most HTTP links, it can't handle this one.  I'm happy to try other download managers, but I don't want to ditch FD as I've been using it for ages now and it's been very reliable and is spyware-free.

I just tried a video download.  The MPG link works fine, but the ZIP link suffers from the same problem - Fresh Download says it's a small HTML file and I should use my browser to open it.  It can't resolve it to the actual ZIP file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried right-clicking and "Save Target as".  I haven't done this with ISM because the regular link workes OK with me,  but many other sites require the "Save Target" procedure.

That won't work because it's a link to an HTML page.  I tried it.

Thanks anyway.

Your problem arises from the fact that the folios are not absolute references to the zip but a relative database reference, whereas the movies are absolute file names held in the database. I would be surprised if a download manager could handle any relative file names.

You could try asking, very nicely, Head, or perhaps Shannon might be better, if they could provide you with absolute URL pointers to the zipped blobs to which the database points.

I've been in email contact with ISM but I don't know who's been responding as they're signed "ISM". No actual practical help so far, sadly. Anyway, I could hardly ask for an absolute URL for every ZIP link that I feel like trying. By the way, I clicked on a Windows Media Video link and got nowhere either - it's a javascript link.

Why is nothing simple any more?  sad

PS: how the hell do I turn Smilies ON??

I was thinking there, for a minute, that you may have been a fellow Mac-user and that I may have been able to be of some assistance to you. Sorry to say though that being a Mac-snob, I have absolutely no idea as to how a Windows machine functions and thus, I regret, am unable to attempt to help you with your woes.

I can offer you the best of luck with it (if that ccounts for anything?)

Re: Download woes

Macs?  I think I may have seen them on some American TV programmes.  Willow uses one in Buffy.

ISM are now getting annoyed with me now, so I guess I'm on my own.  I don't want to make a nuisance of myself but I do want to download ZIPs without the aid of a web browser.  sad

Unfortunately, because of the way in which the pointers to the zip files for the folios are held, there is no way that a Download Manager can download them. I run Linux and even a tool as capable as wget cannot handle relative URL pointers because it needs absolute file pointers, just like the other tools.

Re: Download woes

Much as I dislike it's advertising bias and busy interface, Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) appears to be capable of resolving the PHP script.  It can't handle the javascript links to movies, though.  If it can handle the ZIP links, I can try scheduling overnight downloads - which is what I need.

I wish the simpler download managers such as Star Download and Fresh Download could handle these indirect links.  I think the only reason DAP can do it is because it has an option called User Agent, which I've set to MSIE6/Mozilla4.  Maybe it's that that enables resolution of the links.

Any useful input on this topic is still welcome.

Sorry to get techie, folks.  Please feel free to continue the threads about nipples and pubic hair or whatever.  smile

Re: Download woes

i look at it this way:
how many folios can i appreciate in a day? i mean, just one great folio, a real standout, don't you want to stare at it for days at a time?

i guess i'm more monogamus with my porn, too. wink   i don't like to feel like i'm "cheating" on my favorite artist...

I can understand that, although I think it applies more to real life than to photographs.  I used to feel fond of Katie (and her World) until she went slutty.

I like ISM because it treads a fine line between art and porn.  My favourite pics are those which fall into both categories.  I think they are then defined as "erotica".  smile

Can someone give me a URL for this site?  What about girls' own sites in general, are they worth joining?   A couple of ISM contributors have asked us whether we could help them set up their own sites and I wonder what the do's and don'ts are for success?

http://www.katies-world.com

Other single girl sites that do quite well are:

http://www.teenkarma.com     (this SoCal girl is not a beauty queen,  but has so much energy,  she's popular)
http://www.tawneestone.com    (another girl from a small Texan town,  like Katie)
http://www.littleapril.com

for starters.  I've been asked to do sites myself and have studied why some are so successfull.  It seems that they offer photo sets in 35 to 50 pics.  Each set is a different enviroment or costume.  Each set starts out with basic modeling and gets more risque as it progresses.  Some end with basic nude modelling,  some are sexually explicit.  Vidoes are added as the site progresses.  One key factor is that downloading must be done in steps:  ie  You can't get set 35  (the most sexually explicit) until you've dl'd sets 1-34.  I assume they track this through cookies,  but there might be other ways.  No sites offer sets with higher resolution that a full screen monitor.  All have teaser photos, just like ISM.

it's late and I can't think of anything else, offhand.  I'll have my own site up soon  (No, not pics of me)  and I'll PM anyone interested with the URL.

Re: Download woes

the ones i like the most show NO MALE INTERFERENCE... for example, i hate the assholes like MILFHUNTER or FIRST TIME PORN TRYOUT sweating over the girls.

bottom line: manage it female, non-mafia (if that's possible???) and don't have voice-overs of a pimp or shots of his dick like in www.deep-throat.com. that site is always great, until the boyfriend/manager/pimp gets in the frame.

you can D/L examples of these peer-to-peer. they're distributed free as "bait".

Re: Download woes

one of the best mpegs i've EVER d/L'd peer-to-peer was "BWC Strippers in a hot tub" 119MB. you need VLC to view it.  it's hypnotyzing...
