ARTISTS STATEMENT

I grew up with European nudity standards (family walks naked in the house in the summer because it's hot) in a North American country with typical body shaming. It's confusing thinking that there is nothing wrong with nudity, then being taught to hide away my body because of reasons that are rarely made clear. A real fear of nudity was developed, even in public showers. As I grew older, I reasserted some confidence in myself, and in others, encouraging others to see beauty in themselves, and trying to lead by example with my friends. Problem is it's easy to fake confidence, more difficult to feel it. I am comfortable with my body until I see myself, whether in a mirror, or simply looking down at myself while naked. This experience is for me to recognize that the beauty I see in others also exists in me. I am doing this for myself and it feels awesome. I am beautiful and I feel it in me.
