ARTISTS STATEMENT

Feeling empowered in every sense of the word is always my goal when I shoot self-portraits. I love to tell stories, to create narratives and alter egos to document my relationship to myself and to my sexuality. As a genderqueer Arab femme, I struggle with finding representation that challenges the colonial stereotypes and fetishes. Taking pictures of myself and celebrating my body, my gender and my sexuality are ways to reclaim these parts of my identity that are often overlooked or assumed. Creating erotic images is a healing process to learn to see myself outside of the orientalist dominant point of view. Moreover as someone who identifies as a witch incorporating fantasy, magic and mythological references in these images also is a way of mixing art and spirituality in a creative and playful way.
